A young French artist Guy Matchoro, exhibits until the end of the month at Maïté Béjar Gallery a thorough set of recent works which are part of the abstract tradition of the neighbouring country, developed and recognized internationally since the Fifties.

The first impression induces us to think that the paintings could pass to be the fruit of an anxious spirit who search inside answers and questions which are submitted to him and are the consequence of its own and vital experience.

The work of Matchoro is identified with the abstraction, although it would be more precise to say, given its culture, with Tachism or with The Other Art or The Informal Art, if we rely on the terms put in circulation in the Fifties by each of the two French critics, Michel Tapié and Michel Seuphor. However, it is a painting which corresponds to the North Americain Abstract Expressionism  and The Informal Abstraction scene, represented in Spain, for example, by the members of the group “EL PASO”.

It is a painting which likes large surfaces where the color is freely applied and in which coincides traces, spots and graffs which represent a certain pulsation of painting, almost as a certain visceral answer that we would say autobiographical, by the ease with which the expressive gesture channels the artist’s feelings at the time of plastic creation.

In some works, a timid figurative insinuation can be apprecied with an expressive rough surface.

Returning to a consideration of the comment of the autobiographical gesture, the work presented by Matchoro, affects this character of the abstract representation which vehicle the frame of the artist’s mind with what appears on the canvas ;  glimpsed landscapes, during this trip, which justified the present series. The pictorial process is  more colorfull in the representation of space, either by the expressive use of the matter, or by the way of attacking the matter itself, or by the power of the color.

Un joven artista francés Guy Matchoro, expone hasta finales de mes en la Galería Maïté Béjar un nutrido conjunto de trabajos recientes que se inscriben en la tradición abstracta del país vecino, desarrollada y dada a conocer internacionalmente a partir de la década de los anos cincuenta.

La primera impresión que nos causa la exposición induce a pensar que la pintura pudiera pasar por ser fruto de un espíritu inquieto que busca en el interior las respuestas a las interrogantes que se le plantean como consecuencia de su experimenta vital.

La obra Matchoro se identifica con la abstracción, aunque mas preciso seria decir -teniendo en cuenta la cultura en que se integran- con el tachisme, o con el arte otro o el informalismo, si nos remitimos a los términos puestos en circulación en los anos cincuenta por sendos críticos franceses, Michel Tapié y Michel Seuphor, en cualquier caso se trata de una pintura que viene a corresponderse con el expresionismo abstracto norteamericano y con la abstracción informalista de la época, que en el caso español estuvo protagonizada, entre otros, por los integrantes del grupo El Paso.

Una pintura que gusta le las amplias superficies en las que se generosamente se aplica el colorido y en las que vienen a coincidir trazos, manchas y esgrafia dos que representan una cierta pulsación de la pintura, casi como de una cierta respuesta visceral, y que diríamos autobiográfica por la facilidad con la que el gesto expresivo canaliza los sentimientos del artista a la hora de la creación plástica. En algunas obras es apreciable una tímida insinuación figurativa que comparte con la accidentada orografía de la representación de la escena un similar talante expresivo.

    Volviendo sobre la consideración del gesto como servidumbre autobiográfica, la obra presentada por Matchoro incide en ese carácter de la representación abstracta que vincula el estado de animo del artista a lo que se llega a plasmar en el cuadro ; en este caso paisajes entrevistos a lo largo de aquel viaje, que parece ser ha motivado la presente serie. El tratamiento pictórico es mas abigarrado al concebir la representación del espacio, bien sea por la expresividad que esta implícita en el uso de materia, bien por la forma de atacar dicho material, bien por la potenciación del colorido.
